gema powder coating process

After spending over 30 years in the industry, our powder coating processes here at UK Powder Coating Services have become extremely finetuned. Consistently investing in the very latest technologies, coupled with the expertise of our team means that we’ve built up a reputation for producing quality products with a top end commercial finish. Thanks to our automated 4 stage paint line, our facility has the capacity to powder coat a large range of items, including volume orders and large batch quantities. Find out more about our powder coating process here:

1. Preparing the Powder

The specialist powder coatings that we use are built from complex polymer resin systems, which are then combined with curatives, levelling agents, colour pigments and flow moderators. To create the powder, the elements are mixed, cooled, and ground down, ready to begin the powder coating process.

2. Prepping Surfaces

Before entering our powder coating spraying booths, each item is treated in order to remove excess debris and rust lying on the surface. This is done with a phosphate wash, which effectively removes dirt whilst neutralising the PH of the metal, and priming the surface for the next step in the powder coating process.

3. Powder Coating

Once items have been prepped, they are carefully sprayed using our electrostatic spray deposition (ESD) guns, which adhere the powder coating to the metal substrate. The spray guns apply an electrostatic charge to the powder particles, resulting in them being attracted to the surface of the metal.

4. Curing

After the powder application, the final step in the powder coating process is curing. During this time, heat is applied to the coated surface, causing it to chemically react and produce chains of high cross-link density. Because these chains are resistant to breakdown, our finished powder coated products are extremely durable and resistant to heavy use.
